Why did the Pope took the name of Francis
Pope Francis explained the reason why he chose Francis' name, pointing out "the name entered my heart: Francis of Assisi".
The Pope recalled that, during his election: “when the votes rose to two-thirds, there was the customary applause, because he had been elected. Cardinal Claudio Hummes hugged me, kissed me, and said, "Don't forget about the poor."
“And that is the word that entered my heart. I immediately thought of Francis de Assisi, the man of peace. ”
