05311221 Saint Francis meets Saint Anthony
Fernando decided to abandon the Augustinian canons and follow in the footsteps of Francis of Assisi, in whose Order of Friars Minor, he received the name Anthony. Once with the Franciscans, the missions received sent him to Morocco.
However, Anthony became ill and had to return to Italy. The ship carrying him was severely damaged at sea, but he eventually reached Sicily, where he received medical treatment. In 1221 he arrived in Assisi, where Francis had summoned all the friars, to the great Chapter of the Mats, which was to be held from May 30 to June 8, 1221.
This was his opportunity to meet Francis in person, despite being among three thousand other brothers, professed and novices. The presentation took place in Saint Mary of the Angels, in a direct and fraternal way. Antonio confirmed his decision to follow Christ in the style of Saint Francis of Assisi.
We thank God for the testimony of Francis and Anthony, two important columns in our Fraternity and in the Universal Church.
