The Life and Miracles of Saint Francis of Assisi is a medieval manuscript written in Middle French, a language used from about 1400 to 1600. The manuscript is 143 leaves and measures 19.5 x 13.5 centimeters. The Library of Congress provided the English title.
The earliest French literary works were saints' lives, with The Canticle of Saint Eulalie written in the second half of the 9th century as the first known example.
The Campsey Collection is another medieval manuscript that contains rhymed Old French saints' lives. It dates from the late 13th and early 14th centuries. The manuscript is in the British Library.
The authentic writings of St. Francis of Assisi include: Admonitions, Salutation of the Virtues, Instruction on the Blessed Sacrament, The First and Second Rules of the Friars Minor, and The Testament and Regulation for Hermitages.
