07211619 St Lawrence of Brindisi


Lawrence was born in 1559 in the Italian city of Brindisi. He was admited to the Order of the Capuchin Minor Firars. He taught theology to his brothers and held various positions. An indefatigable and eloquent preacher, he toured all of Europe. 

He wrote numerous works expounding the faith. He distinguished himself by his great love for the Eucharist and by his filial devotion to the Virgin. He finished his career in Lisbon in 1619. He was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1881. John XXIII gave him the title of "Apostolic Doctor" in 1959. His remains rest in the Clarisas Monastery in Villafranca del Bierzo (Leon).
