International Hugging Day
On International Hug Day, we remember the historic meeting between Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Dominic. A gesture of fraternity that inspires us to walk together in faith and love.
Two important religious orders, the Franciscans and the Dominicans, are classified as belonging to the "mendicant" family, who in their time begged for sustenance and everything necessary to survive and carry out God's work. Both spiritualities are actually distinct: the Order of Preachers seeks a closer relationship with God through study, while the Franciscans propose a closer relationship through poverty. The founders of both orders were contemporaries and met in Rome, forging a close friendship from then on.
