Holy Week

Español

Holy Week is the most sacred week of the liturgical year, commemorating the final week of Jesus Christ’s life, passion, death, and resurrection. Running from Palm Sunday to Holy Saturday, it centers on the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday-Holy Saturday), reliving the Last Supper, crucifixion, and resurrection.

The key days and observances include:

Palm Sunday: Commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, with palms blessed and distributed.

Spy Wednesday (Holy Wednesday): Remembering Jesus' betrayer by Judas Iscariot.

Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday): Celebrates the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, instituting the Eucharist and Holy Orders, followed by the washing of feet.

Good Friday: A solemn day of fasting and abstinence, focusing on the Passion, crucifixion, and death of Jesus, typically with the Stations of the Cross.

Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil: A day of quiet reflection on Jesus in the tomb, culminating in the joyous Easter Vigil at night, which marks his resurrection.

This week is a profound time for Catholics to walk with Christ through his suffering, death, and victory, renewing their faith through prayer, confession, and intense liturgical participation.
