Six Franciscan Saints

Español

Six saints of the Franciscan order: Saint Bonaventure, Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Saint Clare of Assisi, Saint Bernardino of Siena; Saint Louis of Toulouse. Etching by Anna Jameson, created and publicated between 1800-1899. Illustrator Jameson, Mrs. (Anna), 1794-1860, and the lettering "The Franciscan saints" also by Anna Jameson f.

These types of engravings of saints were used as devotional aids, acting as visual reminders of the saints' lives and examples, and as a means to strengthen prayer and faith. Even today, these illustrations promote veneration of the saints, reminding us of their exemplary lives and their role as intercessors.
