This story was described by the Pope as a "foreshadowing" of today's technology. Television, and now also computer screens and smartphones, can be instruments that show how the Word and the celebration of the Eucharist can be a source of grace even for those who cannot be physically present. Of course, online or televised Masses cannot adequately replace Mass, which is essentially a gathering and a meal, but at least many can participate virtually, especially those in difficult circumstances.
Television and the internet can be sources of GRACE. But they can also be a source of problems. They can poison minds and lead consciences astray. Let us pray that, through the intercession of Saint Clare, we may discern well when choosing the programs offered to us. May television and online programs be instruments for imparting truth and good values. Let us also pray that the media, especially those who work in television networks, will not be afraid to follow the dictates of their conscience in the face of the threats and manipulation they may encounter.
