The Holy Family with St. Francis of Assisi, by Fabrizio Santafede

Fabrizio Santafede or Fabrizio Santaféde was an Italian painter known for his altarpieces. He painted in a style that rejected the Mannerism popular in the Naples of his time and evident in the works of Francesco Curia.

In this painting, Saint Francis is adoring the Christ Child, being hold by the blessed Virgin Mary, as two groups of youthful angels fly above. On the back, Saint Joseph makes space for the saint to approach baby Jesus. Emphasizing this intention, the Virgin Mary brings Francis closer, reaching for him with her right hand. On his part, Francis kneels down, and carefully holds the baby's foot.
