Saint Conrad of Piacenza
Saint Conrad was born in Piacenza (Italy) around the year 1290, of a noble family. He was a lover of worldly life and hunting. On a hunt he ordered his servants to set fire to the bush where some game had been hidden. The fire spread and destroyed fields and houses.
Conrad returned to the city without anyone seeing him. A poor man accused of the fire was sentenced to death. This made Conrado reflect, who pleaded guilty and had to pay for the damages caused with his property. He and his wife were left in misery, but they saw the hand of God in it and decided to consecrate themselves to the Lord.
She entered the Poor Clares and he chose the life of a hermit. He wore the habit of the Third Order of Saint Francis. He made a pilgrimage through Rome and Malta, arrived in Sicily and settled in Noto. He cared for the sick at the Hospital until, to escape from his devotees, he retired to a nearby hermitage. He died there on February 19, 1351.
