Saint Francis by an unknown artist
It has been suggested that this panel might be the work of one of the painters from Rome who decorated the crypt of the cathedral of Anagni (Lazio) towards 1235-40. Its style is extremely graphic: a dark line profiles the figure and the features of the face, and the folds form concentric circles.

This image is a public domain image, which means either that copyright has expired in the image or the copyright holder has waived their copyright. Franciscan Gallery charges for the access to high resolution copy of the image. Manually restoration was necessary in order to improve quality, without covering the original image.
