Franciscan TAU
In his role of General Superior of an Order approved by the Catholic Church, St. Francis attended the Lateran Council on November 11, 1215. HH Innocent III thus opened "Tau is the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and has the shape of a cross. Tau is the sign that is worn on the forehead when the splendor of the cross manifests itself in us."
From then on, Francis revered the Tau because it represented the cross and penance. Preferring it to any other sign, drawing it on the walls of all cells, and finally signing with it all your letters and writings.
