Gloria Franciscana by Cleta Bakewell
Español
This large artwork is alocated in the vestibule to Maria Angelorum Chapel of the Franciscan Sisters of perpetual adoration, in Wisconsin. It was painted by Sister Cleta Bakewell, in 1918.
Although they lived in diferent ages, the saints listed are: Angeline, Cure of Ars, Elizabeth, Louis IX, Colette, Isabelle, Clare, Duns Scotus, Bonaventure, Anthony, Louis of Japan, and Rose of Viterbo, presented in different poses of prayer and adoration, all of them following the lead of the founder of the Franciscan Orders, Saint Francis of Assisi.
There is a noticible diversity on the origins of the many Franciscan Saints. Some proceed from royalty, while others were peasents, and even mendicants, as Francis himself was. Even clergy men, bishops and Popes have professed into this religious family.
A special acknowledgement to the archive of the chapel who facilitated the image for this post. Find out more, by visiting the website of the Franciscan Sisters of perpetual adoration, here
