Crucifixion Saint Francis Charles Borromeo
On this painting of the XVII century made by an unknown author, a more intimate scene of the crucifixion is represented. Besides the central figure of Jesus Christ, only two other saints are present; Francis, and Charles Borromeo, the second one being a faithful folowwer of Saint Francis, to which Third Secular Order he was professed.
Francis, who shares the Christ's stigmatta, embraces himself, as Charles Borromeo, prays. Both of them have a sweet loving gaze towards Jesus, at that exact time he has given his life on the Cross. A second clue which indicates this is the exact time of His death, is the fact that is nighttime (Mt, 27 45-46):
From noon onward, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And about three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
