It is likely that the crucifix was destined to be hung above the altar of the Holy Sacrament, which suggests that the church of San Damián was parish. In 1257 the poor Poor Clares left San Damián to take San Jorge and took the Crucifix with them.
They kept it carefully for 700 years. In the Holy Week of 1957, the crucifix was placed for public veneration to hang after the altar in the chapel of St. George in the Basilica of St. Clare of Assisi.
