Letter F Master of the Assisi Choirbooks
Within the many collections of highly decorated Italian manuscripts, we find this example of the initial letter F in a manuscript that represents the episodes of stigmatization and the preaching to birds by Saint Francis (1280). This elegant work is believed to proceed from a series of choral books produced in the late 13th century for the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi, or perhaps for some other Franciscan Monastery in the region. It is a miniature with a captivating vitality. The letter decoration includes bright colors with elaborate white detailing.
