Final day of Advent

Español

In the Catholic Church, Advent's last day is Christmas Eve, December 24th, with the season officially ending at sundown as the Christmas Vigil begins, transitioning immediately into the Christmas Season; it's a period of intense preparation for Christ's birth, focusing on waiting and hope, culminating in the celebration of the Nativity.

Advent lasts for about four weeks, starting on the Sunday closest to November 30th (St. Andrew's feast day).

It concludes at the end of the day on December 24th, with the first Mass of Christmas Eve marking the start of the Christmas season.

The final days, especially December 17-24, emphasize the Nativity and feature the "O" Antiphons, ancient prayers highlighting Christ's coming.

The liturgical year begins with Advent and ends with Ordinary Time, with Advent serving as the primary preparation for Christmas.
