Francis' new Order also attracted women. In 1208, when he was about 15 years old, Clare, the eldest daughter of the noble family Offreduccio of Assisi, heard Francis' preaching. Her message had a great spiritual attraction for her, and she decided to follow the path of the Gospel according to her vision. In 1212, she secretly left her house with a partner and was received by Francis and the brothers in their way of life. However, it was necessary to take refuge in a convent.

After a time of enjoying the hospitality of some local nuns, she established herself with some of her companions outside the walls of Assisi in a small church dedicated to Saint Damien. Here Clare lived a closed contemplative life of radical poverty for more than 40 years. Clara was filled with joy at the thought that she had received an invitation to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. She saw this in light of her baptismal call to live the Gospel. In his will, he asks his sisters to always remember, in a spirit of thanksgiving, the wonderful gift given to them in their vocation.
