Saint Francis was not an educated man, a scholar, or some intellectual. He recognized it many times,  describing himself as an ignorant . Therefore, we can assume that it was not customary for Francis to have the Holy Scriptures in his hands. He had only learned to read and write in Latin, enough to work in commercial life. Having not gone to university, or having had access to the libraries of the monasteries, how could I have deepened the mysteries of the Bible in such a way? Francis immersed himself in the study of Holy Scripture because he longed to know the will of God. And it came to pass that the indications contained in the Bible agreed with their purposes.
