Outside the Church
This time of preparation for Easter faces massive acts, focus of spread of the disease, the Church has followed the indications of Health offering the faithful to show their devotion with a reverence, because, as a woman at the feet of Jesus "when there is faith, approaching is enough ”.
Applying the spirit of penance as recommended by the Church, the experience of the coronavirus will have a renewal meaning in our lives.
Coronavirus is an unexpected event in our lives. Nobody imagined the consequences that it would have on the normal development of our activities, but it is as real as that in some countries and areas such drastic measures such as isolation, quarantine, the limitation of trips and meetings or the saturation of hospitals.
We are in the middle of Lent and this can help us to live the coronavirus with a Christian sense. Why not fit the coronavirus with Lent understood as conversion and approach to God?
Lent offers us a time to live the spirit of penance and there is the coronavirus putting it on a tray.
Freedom to decide what to do about the coronavirus
The coronavirus is something that is given to us, but everyone can do this stage what they want: a few days of sterile complaint and bad mood, or a period of personal growth and approach to God.
The Church proposes three aspects to live the spirit of penance typical of Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
The coronavirus can help us to look up to the sky, to remember that we are vulnerable. We easily forget that we are in the hands of God. Now that we smell the possibility of falling ill or that we fear for the health of our loved ones, we know that God is always with us and we cultivate hope.
Providence is that: God's loving care for created beings. Although we have forgotten him, he continues to govern our destinies. And expect a loving response from us.
Have we included God in our conversations about the coronavirus? Or have we forgotten Him and these days we are stunned at the succession of the news? It is time to react, be proactive and draw the entire map of our existence: God must appear in our daily selfie.
If you are in isolation or quarantined, or your social life has been greatly reduced, why not organize a personal encounter with God in prayer? Meet him to talk about your life, your situation, your concerns. You can do it in your room or anywhere in the house where you can have a moment of meditation. Take the Gospel. Pray the prayers you know, read a spirituality book.
