Saint Francis

Saint Francis of Assisi celebrated Easter by contemplating life, giving thanks to God, and welcoming death. He believed that resurrection was a reality that gave hope and light to his life. 

Contemplating life 

• Considered his life and his role in the Franciscan Family
• Thanked God for the gifts he had received

Welcoming death 

• Welcomed death with song
• Believed that death is not the end, but the beginning of communion with God
• Taught that every suffering contains the seed of resurrection

Celebrating resurrection 

• Composed a special Office for the Easter season in his devotional Office of the Cross
• Sang the hymn "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain"
• Sang "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!"

Saint Francis of Assisi is considered the "Easter Saint". He is one of the most revered religious figures in Roman Catholic history. He is the patron saint of animals and ecology.
