Inmaculate Conception with Saints Francis and Clare
The Immaculate Conception refers to the Catholic doctrine that the Virgin Mary, mother of Christ, was herself born without sin. Following traditional iconography. She is commonly depicted her as Queen of Heaven, accompanied by angels and standing on a crescent moon, a symbol of chastity.
This doctrine, much debated, was supported by the Franciscan Orders, lead by Duns Scotus (OFM). For this reason the Blessed Virgin is also represented before the presence of Franciscan saints, such as Francis and Clare of Assisi, founding fathers of the orders.
