Medal Saint Anthony of Padua
Saint Anthony of Padua (Spanish Gilt Bronze medal, early 17th century)
Beautiful image of Saint Anthony represented in a traditional way, holding the Child in his arms, who in turn is seated on the Holy Scriptures. This symbol represents the advanced studies of Saint Anthony, who is known for his effective preaching. Other books are seen in the background, behind the Saint's back, on his desk.
A whip rests on his kneeler, which indicates that Antonio dedicated his time not only to study, but to the practices of corporal penance. On the right side, a skull represents Sister Death, friend of the Seraphic Father Saint Francis, who inspired Saint Anthony, and so many other brothers, to be saints and to live an evangelical lifestyle.
