Saint Anthony
Fernando de Bulloes and Taveira de Azevedo was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1195. From the age of 15 he entered the Regular Canons of San Agustin, but ten years later he decided to change to the Franciscan Friars Minor where at the age of 25 he adopted the name of Anthony .
He had a clear and strong voice, prodigious memory and deep knowledge, the spirit of prophecy and an extraordinary gift of miracles. His reputation for acting prodigious acts has never diminished and is still recognized as the greatest caster of all time.
Pope Gregory IX canonized him less than a year after his death at Pentecost on May 30, 1232.
