Holy Child adored by Francis

Saint Francis liked being in Greccio because it seemed to him to be "rich in its poverty." Many of its inhabitants professed the Rule of the Third Order and led a life of penance in their own homes. Every day, at a certain time, the friars sang the praises of the Lord and the people of the castle, large and small, left their homes and replied: "Praise the Lord." This allowed them to be free for a while from the hawks and wolves, but after a few years, they began to take pride and hate each other, as Saint Francis predicted, which resulted in the castle being grazed by flame, by work of the soldier of Frederick II, in 1242.
