Bull "Inter Sanctos" by which he proclaims Saint Francis, patron saint of environmentalists

Sister Earth Among the saints and illustrious men who have had a singular cult for nature, as a magnificent gift made by God to humanity, Saint Francis of Assisi is precisely included. He, in fact, greatly appreciated all the works of the Creator and, with almost supernatural inspiration, composed that beautiful "Canticle of the Creatures", through which, especially of brother sun, sister moon and the stars, he rendered to the almighty and good Lord due praise, glory, honor and every blessing.

For this reason, with the most praiseworthy initiative, our brother, Cardinal Silvio Oddi, Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Clergy, especially on behalf of the members of the International Society Planning environmental and ecologycal Institute for quality life, has presented to this Apostolic See the I wish that Saint Francis of Assisi be proclaimed heavenly Patron of the cultivators of ecology.

Therefore, knowing the opinion of the Sacred Congregation for the Sacraments and Divine Worship, through these Letters of Ours and in perpetuity, we proclaim Saint Francis of Assisi, the heavenly Patron of the cultivators of ecology, with all the honors and liturgical privileges. inherent, notwithstanding anything to the contrary. We so dispose, ordering that the present Letters be religiously preserved and achieve, in the present and in the future, their full effect.

Given in Rome, next to Saint Peter, under the Fisherman's ring, on November 29 in the year of the Lord 1979, II of our pontificate.
