Royal ensigns of Christ
This work depicts a procession of Franciscan saints, led by their seraphic father, Saint Francis of Assisi, who appears on the right side of the painting. Moving back along the procession, we see lines of barefoot Franciscan saints following him.
Directly before Francis stand Saint Bernardine of Siena and another unidentified saint. Ahead of them is Saint Anthony of Padua, accompanied by an unknown Capuchin friar. Next come Saint Clare of Assisi, holding the monstrance, together with her sister Saint Agnes of Assisi. Following them are Saint Louis, King of France, and Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, both identifiable by their crowns, and next to them two further unidentified saints.
All the saints carry a crucifix, except for Saint Francis, who holds a banner, and Saint Clare, who carries the monstrance.
On the lower right side of the painting, an inscription reads:
"Guía NPS Francisco, como alférez reales de cristo por el camino de la penitencia y vida evangélica a sus tres órdenes siguiéndole gusto los observantes y capuchinos descalzos y claustrales monjas de santa clara de la primera y segunda regla y frailes y seculares de la tercera"
