Franciscan crown

The prayer of the crown is a marian devotion which was born within the Franciscan Orders. This crown is made up of the seven joys of the Blessed Virgin.

In 1442, at the time of Saint Bernardino of Siena, the news of an apparition of the Virgin was spread to a Franciscan novice, who had the custom of offering the Virgin a crown of roses.

When he joined the Order of Minor Brothers, he could no longer continue his offer to the Blessed Virgin. His anguish led him to decide to abandon the Order. The Virgin appeared to comfort him and indicated another offering: Recite every day seven tens of Hail Marys interspersed with the meditation of the seven joys she lived in her existence.

In this way the Franciscan Crown originated: the Rosary of the seven joys.
