Why do Catholics light candles
We can find multiple candles before the images of the Saints ... especially if it is a popular Saint.
A passage of the Gospel comes to mind:
"I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8: 12).
We also remember the night of the Easter Vigil, when all the faithful enter the Temple in the dark, until the Priest arrives, carrying the Easter Candle.
"Christ, light of the world"
"Thanks be to God"
Reminding us of the arrival of Jesus to our world plunged into the darkness of sin, to bring us the light of God.
The light of the candles illuminate our simple prayers, which humbly and with great faith, we raise to heaven.
