Major Legend of Saint Bonaventure:
«Brother Pacific ... deserved to see again in the forehead of Francis a great Tau, who, adorned with a variety of colors, embellished his face with admirable charm. The Saint venerated this sign with great affection: he frequently commended it in his words and traced it with his own hand at the foot of the brief letters he wrote, as if all his care was taken to engrave the tau sign - according to the prophetic saying - on the fronts of the men who groan and hurt (Ez 9.4), truly converted to Jesus Christ»
