Transition to Mount della Verna

The Porciuncula ceased to be a quiet place, because of this, in August 1224, our father St. Francis decided to leave, looking for a secret and lonely place to pray. Finally, he arrived at the mount Della Verna, endowed with a spectacular natural beauty, and a peace that until our times, has no equal.

Mount Alverna is one of the places where Saint Francis is venerated. Mount Alverna was given to San Francisco in 1213 by Count Orlando Cattani of Alverna, who described it as an ideal place for contemplation, due to its location in the midst of nature. On the top a hermitage was founded, which would become the favorite place of Francis and his companions to spend long periods of meditation and prayer. Francis' last stay was in 1224 when he was already tired and sick. During this time, while he was absorbed in prayer, he had a vision and received the stigmata he carried until his death, two years later.
